Mellow Man — Hey, I’ll Give You $5 If You Read All The Way to the End of This Post

Three times this week I was at work after 11 p.m.  I didn’t work out a single time all week — until this morning.  For 54 minutes into the breezy sunshine, I ran.  I thought of all the people prepared yet still anxious about tomorrow’s Marine Corp Marathon.  I sent them silent encouragement and then laughed because I was relaxed.  I was only going seven miles.

Since I finished Savageman in September, I’ve been exercising without a plan.  I’ve been moving and exercising and getting outside — I haven’t done a workout.  I haven’t worn a heart rate monitor.  I haven’t worried too much about recovery because there isn’t an overload of activity.

I’ve been mellow.  Now I’m ready for a new set of goals and a new workout plan that points toward a singular event with plenty of milestones along the way.  Next week, I’ll start anew and begin the work for 2014.  I’m looking forward to it.

I’m not sure of all my goals yet for the year.  Some will no doubt be about specific events while others are more subjective.  I really hope to get a lottery entry for the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim.  I’d like to swim it faster at 40 years old than I did in my late 20s.  Crazy as it sounds, it is possible.  I’d like to run some best times because I believe that I’m not even approached my potential there.  I’d love to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships again.  I’ll make a list and share it here soon.

One set of goals is certainly focused on nutrition.  Late in the spring, I tried the Whole 30 Food Challenge.  I’ve basically adapted to a paleo diet with some significant exceptions.  I’m probably about 85 percent there.  Most importantly, I feel better, train better, sleep better and probably am just a better person to be around when that figure moves up from 85 toward 100 percent.

Adopting the habit of Power Supply lunches should help.  It cuts down on the preparation and menu selection that makes a disciplined diet so difficult during the workday.  Earlier I wrote about the ambassador program.  The Power Supply team gave me a unique promotional code to share, so if you’d like to test out their meals, enter KLASSMAN into the order form online to receive a $5 discount.  Then, shoot me a note or comment here and let me know what you think.
