I changed the brake shoes — or brake blocks, depending on where you are from — on the Kuota by myself this morning. It felt good — much better than the 6 miles of hills that I ran in the humidity with Big Al this afternoon. I don’t normally do work on my own bike. It is something I want to do more of in the coming year.
Funny thing though, as I got up close and personal, as I cleaned and rubbed and twisted and adjusted the minutest angles in the braking mechanism, I noticed the tires. They are starting to separate. I’m fond of them. Hutchison’s with Kevlar — smooth without tread. They will need to be replaced before the first of the year.
