Serious training — with goals, a plan and some measure of discipline — will begin on November 1, 2011.
Phase one will be three months, three long, cold, dark months. The focus will be on core strength, mental strength, weight and running, in that order.
Phase two will be shorter and will commence in February and end approximately 20 or 24 weeks out from race day — which is mid-March. Focus on strength, drills and swimming keeping in mind the National Half Marathon in early March.
Phase three will carry all the way through Lake Placid. I want to race again this year in April and May, but think I’ll train right through them.
Committing this to writing does nothing to help my fitness, but it is a big step forward.
